May 10, 2004: Overall the police presence on the square was quite modest, especially compared with the overwhelming security in other capitols such as Washington.  However, with only a few weeks to go before the June 4th anniversary, the military used a number of different techniques to remind potential troublemakers of the army's presence.  These troops were exercising around the square.  The picture is a bit blurry as it is illegal to photograph soldiers in China so I had to snap quickly.
