CNN International Reporting
The biggest challenge of writing "in-house packages" at
CNN is the limited time available to do any kind of
research or fact checking. In most cases, I was
assigned to write and record the package with less than
two hours before it goes to air. This means you
have 30 minutes to write the complete story from agency
wire copy and internal CNN feeds, get it over to a copy
editor to check spelling, grammar and facts and then get
it up to the editors who will need at least an hour to
cut the story. There is little room for error and
even less room for much creativity.
