Shanghai, China 1994
Look very carefully at this picture.  Notice how there is NOTHING THERE except a TV tower and a few isolated buildings.  In less than 10 years, Shanghai went from this to this and completely transformed itself. I feel so incredibly lucky that I have had the opportunity to watch this city, much less this country, undergo this profound change right in front of my eyes.

HK to Shanghai train

Dirt & dust everywhere

The first buildings

The building boom

A very different view

Early apartments

More construction

A different kind of tour

Fields of gold

Farmland everywhere

The promises

Unrecognizable today

Building the new China

 Hazy skyline

Old French qtr mansion

Colonial architecture

""Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we."

"I want to thank the astronauts who are with us, the courageous spacial entrepreneurs who set such a wonderful example for the young of our country."

"Had we to do it over again, we would look at the consequences of catastrophic success, being so successful so fast that an enemy that should have surrendered or been done in escaped and lived to fight another day."
