August 27, 2004: I have been told by many
Singaporeans that they cannot afford freedom of thought
because it may lead to "instability" ("chaos" was actually
their word). Most of the people here that I have met
readily accept the government's perspective that financial and
material stability are far more important than intellectual
freedom. That may true now but it may also be this
country's undoing in the future.

""Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and

"I want to thank the astronauts who are with us,
the courageous spacial entrepreneurs who set such a wonderful example for the
young of our country."
"Had we to do it over again, we would look at the
consequences of catastrophic success, being so successful so fast that an enemy
that should have surrendered or been done in escaped and lived to fight another
day."
